ABSTRACT:
Domestic violence is a pervasive and complex social issue affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Despite its prevalence, it remains inadequately understood due to its multidimensional causes and consequences. This paper critically examines major theoretical frameworks explaining domestic violence, including feminist theory, social learning theory, ecological systems theory, and socio-cultural perspectives. Rather than presenting theories in isolation, the paper organizes them into a multi-level analytical framework encompassing individual (micro), relational (meso), and structural (macro) dimensions. The analysis demonstrates that domestic violence is shaped by the interaction of psychological traits, interpersonal dynamics, and broader socio-cultural and institutional structures. The paper argues that no single theory sufficiently explains domestic violence; instead, an integrated theoretical approach is essential for a deeper understanding. By synthesizing diverse theoretical perspectives, the study highlights how such frameworks can inform prevention strategies, policy interventions, and support mechanisms for survivors. Ultimately, the paper underscores that addressing domestic violence requires coordinated efforts across individual, community, and structural levels.
